Jeff McLaren
Chief Executive Officer & Board Member
Jeff McLaren founded Medaxion in 2008 to maximize information technology opportunities in the anesthesia market. Previously, he served as co-founder and CEO of Safer Sleep, LLC, a provider of anesthesia safety and record automation services in New Zealand and the UK. Jeff began his healthcare technology career as co-founder, President, and Chief Product Officer of HealthStream, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSTM).
John Toups
Chief Technology Officer
John Toups directs Medaxion’s technology strategy, outsourced product development, production server operations, and product deployment/integration architecture. As CTO for Safer Sleep,LLC, John was instrumental in achieving U.S. FDA approval and enabling successful U.S. product trials. Toups has also worked with empactHealth.com and the Bioinformatics Department at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dyer Rodes, MD
Chief Medical Officer & Board Member
Dyer Rodes, MD, provides clinical anesthesia advisory for Medaxion. He is an active clinical partner, founding partner, and board member at Anesthesia Medical Group (AMG). Dyer was Chief of Anesthesiology at Centennial Medical Center (CMC) and has worked with Safer Sleep,LLC. Dyer received his degree in medicine from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his anesthesia residency at the University of Florida.
Susan Brownie
Chief Financial Officer
With over 30 years of experience in strategic business leadership and corporate governance, Susan Brownie directs all Medaxion financial and accounting matters. Prior to Medaxion, she served on executive teams in a wide range of healthcare ventures, including: QualDerm Partners, MyHealthDirect, Cogent/HMG, and HealthStream. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the College of William and Mary.
Tracy Poythress
Senior Vice President, Engineering & Product Development
Tracy Poythress manages the product development team and oversees the product development lifecycle, including specification management, feature prioritization, application engineering, architecture, and quality assurance. Prior to her work with Medaxion, Tracy owned Koru Consulting and held Quality Assurance Manager positions at Safer Sleep,LLC, Investment Scorecard, and Valley Forge Life. She is a Veteran of the United States Air Force.
Daniel Prevost
Senior Vice President of Strategic Development
Daniel Prevost leads Medaxion’s sales and business development team. He brings a deep experience with over 19 years in anesthesia and emergency medicine RCM, optimizing health care systems, hospitals and physician practices nationwide. Prior to joining Medaxion, Daniel was responsible for eastern region enterprise sales at Ventra Health where he consulted with large health systems on optimizing revenue and reducing staffing costs. In 2004, Daniel co-founded MedOasis, an anesthesia specific RCM and practice management organization in NC that was sold to Abeo in 2014 and became part of Ventra Health in 2021. He holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University.
Phil Puccio
Vice President of Product Development
Phil Puccio manages Medaxion’s analytics team and is also responsible for specification development for Medaxion Pulse features, analytics features, and new Medaxion products. Phil has several decades of experience as a software developer and software project manager, leading teams large and small in custom application development. He holds a B.S. in Physics from the University of Arizona and an M.S. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Jody Sumner
Vice President of Analytics
Jody Sumner focuses on developing high-quality, insightful analytics products and services for Medaxion’s customers. His career in healthcare and informatics has helped healthcare organizations create data gathering systems and models to improve decision-making. Jody has held management roles at eviCore, Change Healthcare and DC2 Healthcare. He holds a MS from the University of Tennessee and a BS from Samford University.
Joe Thomas
Vice President of Account Development
Joe Thomas leads client relationship management and implementation of Medaxion’s solutions. His primary role is to ensure Medaxion’s services align with client needs. Joe brings a progressive background in healthcare executive operations, business development, and administration. Prior to Medaxion, Joe held executive roles at QualDerm Partners and St. Jude Medical. Joe earned his MBA from Lipscomb University and his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University.
Robert Johnson
Senior Vice President of Anesthesia Operations
Robert Johnson is a seasoned executive with deep expertise in anesthesia services, hospital operations, and healthcare business development. His career spans both academic medicine and for-profit healthcare, with leadership roles at Johns Hopkins, Baylor College of Medicine, Duke University Hospital, and UPMC. He has helped launch national initiatives like The Health Channel and led large-scale integrations of anesthesia programs.
Robert played key roles in scaling anesthesia management firms, including Anesthesia Partners, Premier Anesthesia, and Sheridan (now Envision). He later served as Corporate VP of Anesthesia Services for HCA, overseeing operations across 180 hospitals. Before joining Medaxion, he worked as a strategic consultant to health systems and provider groups.
Chris Walker
Vice President of Business Development
At Medaxion, Chris Walker draws on his clinical and business background to help hospitals and anesthesia groups gain real-time operational and financial insights. His focus on data-driven improvements supports more efficient staffing, anesthesia cost management, and perioperative performance.
Chris has experience across anesthesia, cardiology, orthopedics, and spine. He has worked with hospitals, physician groups, and ambulatory surgery centers to drive strategic growth, improve operations, and manage costs.
Beginning his career as an RN at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Chris moved into pharmaceutical sales before transitioning into leadership roles at PhyMed Healthcare Group, Surgery Partners, and HealthCrest Surgical Partners.
